Type III Secretion System
Type III Secretion Systems (T3SS) or injectisomes are protein transport nanomachines that serve the injection of bacterial effector proteins into eukaryotic host cells. T3SS are used by numerous Gram-negative bacterial pathogens and symbionts to secrete a great diversity of substrates, thus establishing trans-kingdom interactions with different hosts. They are essential virulence factors for the agents of plague and typhoid fever.
