Main Engine Interface Unit
The S-band FM signal processor aboard the orbiter receives inputs and processes data from the three space shuttle main engine interface units (MEIU), the television switching unit, the operations recorders, and the payload recorder for recorder dump, payload analog, payload digital or Department of Defense (DoD). During ascent, space shuttle MEIU data are sent to the S-band FM system to be transmitted in real time to the ground.
